He believes that people have enormous potential, yet too often organisations stifle that potential. Releasing the talent of people by understanding the organisation as a fully human institution is the secret to unlocking potential in every aspect of an organisation’s operations.
He works with a wide range of people advising, diagnosing, analysing and persuading either face-to-face or in blogs or other media. He enjoys doing the hard work to improve things and as a writer also enjoys the slog of carefully crafting books whether factual or fictional. His work has always been suffused with a sense that working hard to be fair and make systems fair is a bedrock for high performance; for outstanding leadership and for great organisational cultures. He will soon be one of the few people in Europe trained and accredited to use the Denison Cultural diagnostic tool.
Nick works in the areas of strategy; change management; organizational development; employee engagement and leadership development. His past and present clients include AXA plc, Pearson plc, Tesco plc, Creative Skillset, BIG Lottery, City & Guilds, Enterprise Inns, Working Links, The Work Foundation, Design Council, Demos, BT, Universities of Manchester, Southampton, East Anglia, Gloucester and West of England, Milton Keynes College, Compass among others.
Nick was the Director of Advocacy at The Work Foundation, where he managed a department of communications, business development, marketing, media and policy specialists. His work included consulting to many leading FTSE 100 companies and large public sector bodies, as well as writing and speaking on a wide range of issues including the economy, health at work, European affairs, the labour market, organisational performance, leadership, welfare reform, finance, corporate governance and CSR.
He has contributed and placed articles and comment in a wide range of media including the Financial Times, the Economist, on all major broadcast news bulletins, The Guardian, The Times, Daily Telegraph, Independent and all the main Sunday papers as well as many specialist and regional media. He is the author or co-author of several reports including ‘Greening Work’ (2008); The Risk Myth (2006), Life at the Top (2005), Where are the Gaps? (2005), Cracking the Performance Code (2005), The Joy of Work (2004) and Achieving High Performance through CSR (2004); and books include The Good Work Guide (2010), The Leadership Challenges of the Next Economy (2011), Centre for Leadership Innovation and What Kind of World do we Want? (2015).
When not writing, speaking or consulting Nick writes fiction from screenplays to children’s stories; supports Northampton Saints and avidly follows (on TV whenever possible) England Rugby. He is also an avid gym goer and occasional cyclist.
